Hair Care Tips

I always get questions as to how I maintain my hair and what I put in it for it to grow. This post is to show what I do and what I use to keep up with it. This is not saying my hair is 100% perfect. My hair like most people still has damaged parts to it. Lets get started:

Background Of My Hair

You have to know the background of your own hair before you can buy products that correspond to it. First of all, I am African-American and Puerto Rican, so my hair texture is more curled defined than some people but I do get relaxers. My hair is also very dry so I buy products that cater to putting moisture and strength back into my hair.

Wash Day Routine

I wash my hair every two weeks because that's when it starts to get oily, itchy and unmanageable. Before I wash it, which is a full days work for me, I oil my scalp with coconut oil because it promotes growth while still oiling my dry scalp. I leave the coconut oil in for a few hours before I wash my hair in the shower. I use any shampoo and conditioner  for dry hair, it doesn't really matter to me. The only things that do matter to me during my routine is my deep and leave-in conditioner. My favorite deep conditioner I use now that I would recommend is the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. Its about $20-25 but it lasts for months and makes my hair shiny and manageable after I wash it out so I believe that spending that much money is worth it. I leave the deep conditioner in for about 20 minutes with a shower cap. I also put my blow dryer on my hair on a low heat setting during those 20 minutes. After I wash out the conditioner from my hair, the two leave-in conditioners I currently use right now it the Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner and the Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner. They both smell very good while still detangling my thick hair. I always use two deep conditioners because I feel like it helps more. I leave the leave in the leave-in conditioners for about 5-10 minutes before I apply my Tresemme Heat Protectant and separate my hair in three sections to blow dry it. After I blow dry it, I apply more heat protectant and I spray my ends lightly with the Renewing Argan Oil Of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil before I start to separate my hair into sections to straighten. After I wash my hair, I try to not to use heat until its closer to the days I have to wash it again. On colder days to give my hair extra protection, I lightly oil my ends with the Macadamia Dry Healing Oil to protect it from dryness. Also, if my ends are looking a bit dingy and damaged, ill trim a little of the ends of my hair.

Tips:
  • MINIMAL/NO HEAT
  • Oil scalp before washing
  • Oil ends especially in colder months.
  • Invest is a good deep conditioner/leave in conditioner
  • Use a heat protectant
  • Get trims often
