Boyz 2 Men Presents: Black Roses Scream For Peace- 3/23/15

Attending an HBCU makes me absorb and realize my African American roots and culture so much more than I ever had before. Black Roses is a visual experience that was held at the Lincoln University Student Union Building Multi-Purpose Room on March 23, 2015 at 7pm. Entry was $5 which went to the charities of the people's choice. The event  emphasized the experiences, accomplishment and the achievements of the African American culture today. It was an event that shaped the portrayal of how black skin is unique and creative.

Boys 2 Men a male mentoring organization on Lincoln University's campus, with the collaboration of Sociology major Rashard Roles and Visual Artist Jakiyah Anderson, put together Black Roses .Lincoln poets, dancers and artists gathered for a nigh to show how African American culture has rich history unlike what is being shown in the media today. One artist, Esther 'Es' Flax showed off her beautiful artwork for guests to see which included watercolor, graphite, sharpie, fingerprints, chalk and colored pencil.

Themes that were spoken about at the Black Roses event were the topics of loosing a child/parents, loving the skin you were born with, blacks killing each other, the meaning of a black man/woman and what it means to be you.

At the end of the event two artists, who were drawing during the whole event, showed off their artwork at the end and explained it to the audience.

Roles, creator of Black Roses went on to say how successful the event was. "The event was lovely and was unlike anything Lincoln had ever seen before. We were able to raise $300 for charity."

Roles hopes to have Black Roses as an annual Lincoln University event.
