My Favorite Deep Conditioners + Tips
Deep conditioning hair is the process of applying a conditioner filled with necessary ingredients and oils to the hair and allowing it to fully absorb and nourish your hair longer than a regular typical conditioner. Deep conditioner deeply penetrates your hair strands to treat and repair your damaged hair. Curly hair is naturally dry and it's important to supply it with much needed moisture and also making it easier to style and manage. Especially during the colder months, it's essential to implement a deep conditioning routine in our weekly hair care routine.
Here are some of my tips on deep conditioning:
1) Establish A Deep Conditioning Routine
You want to deep condition your hair once a week and come up with a deep conditioning routine to every wash day. Overdoing deep conditioning can weigh your hair down.
2) Check The Ingredients
You have to pay special attention to the ingredients that make hair products. If the label doesn't have sulfates, silicones, dye and other parabens, it could be beneficial to the health of your hair.
3) Use Deep Conditioner From Root to Tips
People think conditioners are only for the ends of your hair. When it comes to deep conditioning my hair lather from root to tip so every inch of my hair can reap in the benefits.
4) Make DIY Deep Conditioners
Sometimes If I'm running low on deep conditioner, I will use some of my deep conditioner, add some oils and other essentials and make my own.
5) Use Heat
I know heat and natural hair don't go together, but I always use a hooded dryer to deep condition my hair. After I apply my deep conditioner, I wrap it up and wear a plastic cap over it. Make sure to wear a plastic cap because the heat from the hooded dryer can will leave your hair crunchy. Dry heat vaporizes the moisture and lifts our cuticles allowing the product to be better absorbed into our hair strands.
Maui Moisture Strength & Anti Breakage/ Heal & Hydrate Hair Mask- I love how aloe vera juice is the first ingredient with all their products. The aloe infused with pure coconut water provides moisture and strength. both options of this deep conditioner works well. $8.99
Carol's Daughter Almond Milk/ Rhassoul Clay Hair Mask- I wanted to try this mask because I saw that it contained so many oils such as almond oil, aloe butter, shea oil, coconut oil, shea butter, rosemary leaf extract, sweet almond protein and olive oil and had to try it for myself. I loved it, my hair feels really nourished and moisturized when I use it. Another Carol's Daughter mask I like is from the rhassoul clay line, leaves me hair super soft.
Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Hair Mask- I used to see this mask ALL over youtube when it first came out, everyone raved about it. This conditioner I've been using for a couple years now. it's infused with macadamia oil to restore strength and shine to my hair. It feels moisturized when I use it and makes makes my straight hair feel weightless.
Mielle Organics Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioners- This conditioner has a minty and invigorating feeling on my scalp. The babassu oil is an Amazonian palm fruit that improves scalp health. It includes fatty acids and natural oils from wheat and soy to help reduce frizz and fly-aways, restore moisture to damaged and dry hair. $14.99
Deva Curl Heaven In Hair Intense Moisture Treatment- Definitely on the pricey side, it's a rich deep conditioning treatment that has a lemony and clean smell that uses cupuaçu butter, murumuru butter and cacao Butter to soften and nourish and provide moisture. $28
Hoped this helped anyone find a deep conditioner to try and see the benefits from doing a weekly mask!
