My 2018 Curly Hair Routine

This is my go-to curly hair routine right now. These products have been nothing but good to me and I've noticed a substancial amount of strength and growth I've received from sticking to one consistent routine. All the links to the products will be listed below.

So you're probably wondering what's the random orange colored bottle of liquid? Well, before I start my routine I like to 'pre-poo' which I can do a separate blog post on the importance of it later on. I pretty much mix some of my favorite oils together and apply them to my scalp and massage it into my scalp. It creates blood circulation in the scalp thus increasing hair growth. I also have a dry scalp in the winter and this just makes sure I'm saturating my scalp and providing a protective layer for my hair especially the weeks when I shampoo it so it doesn't dry my hair out.

After I leave my oil treatment on for an hour or maybe a day (whenever I'm not feeling lazy), I start shampooing my hair just focusing it on my scalp only. I rinse the shampoo down my hair strands so the ends of my hair become clean. I only shampoo when I wear my hair curly ONCE EVERY MONTH and every single wash if I'm wearing my hair straight. I'm currently using the Shea Moisture 10-in-1 shampoo, to be honest I'm not crazy about which shampoo and conditioners I use, I mostly focus on deep conditioning, my leave in & styler.

After I shampoo I always go in with conditioner and I put ALOT of conditioner on. I like a conditioner with a lot of slip that provides moisture for my dry hair and I also like the slip to finger detangle in the shower. I'm currently using the OGX tea tree line conditioner which I got on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond for $2! I leave it on my hair for a couple minutes like I mini deep conditioning session and shave or wash my body in the meantime. Another really good conditioner I like thats cheap too is the Aussie moist conditioner, those provide great slip too and are inexpensive.

I use a cowash on the weeks I'm not using shampoo to clarify my scalp without stripping it and I currently use the As I Am coconut cowash as of lately. I really like it and has so many essential ingredients for hair growth. Another good cowash is the Mielle Organics cowash as well. The only downside to that I believe is that it comes in a small bottle just like their mint deep conditioner which I can only use for one wash cause I have a lot of hair. Other than that, its a great alternative.

This is probably my favorite part of my wash day routine. My hair is color treated and I have a tiny bit of heat damage. (which is currently growing out & will do a blog post about how I revived my hair from heat damage (: ) I'm currently using the Shea Moisture JBCO line deep treatment mask which is probably a favorite for everyone. It's geared towards strengthening color treated, over processed and damaged hair. I like it because it has one of my favorite oils for thickening hair which is Jamaican black castor oil. I leave the mask on for at least an hour, sometimes overnight if I'm lazy and put my DIY oil on top of the mask to penetrate my hair while I use my inflatable hair dryer to have a DEEEEEP conditioning session. I honestly think this method is the reason why my hair is so strong and why my style comes out so much better. I have a deep conditioning post here on my favorite deep conditioners and its benefits.

Next I go into sectioning my hair and detangling with a wide tooth comb. I usually don't detangle much since my hair is moisturized and differ detangled from the shower. I'm currently using the CURLS blueberry bliss line leave in conditioner. This is one of my favorite leave in conditioners of all time, it has great slip, moisturizing and smells so good. I use the LOC method when I layer my products, it stands for leave-in/liquid, oil, then cream. So I wet my hair applying the leave in, use my DIY oil or a good alternative is the CURLS blueberry bliss hair growth oil over my leave in so it locks inn the moisture and use a styler on top of that. The LOC method is truly the reason my wash day lasts so long and my hair stays moisturized.

Lastly, after my oil I apply my styler. I'm using the Miss Jessie's multicultural curls. It's a little bit pricey but I say its so worth it because a little goes a long way and you'll have it for a long time. This was the first styler I used when I was first transitioning and it helped my hair a lot. It really moisturizes and clumps your ringlets together to make the perfect curl.

That's my hair routine! I really hope this helps someone with their hair journey or deciding which products to use. Comment below what are your favorite products to use on your hair, I would love to try!

xo, Ash
