Confessions Of A Swimsuit Store Employee: The Importance Of Self Love

Swimsuit shopping can be one of the most terrifying and difficult activities for women of all ages. From weird store lighting, complicated swimsuit straps that lead to nowhere and attentive fitting room employees on top of existing body image struggles.

Working at a swimsuit store at an upscale mall in Westchester, NY, I always encounter women looking for the perfect suit for their trip. Whether it’s a girl’s spring break trip, honeymoon or a family vacation for the kids, everyone wants to look their best wherever they go.

"Constantly helping and convincing women to buy an expensive bathing suit that flatters their shape and they not buy it is a trend I see way too often.  Don’t wait until you lose weight to get the perfect body to love yourself. Yes, it might make you feel way better being that size 6 body you’ve always wanted, but you can love yourself now by changing your focus on what’s important. It’s good to start with one small feature and decide to love that part of you first. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s uniquely you."

Comedians Kristen Hensley and Jen Smedley uploaded a video to their Facebook page IMomSoHard. The video called 'I Swimsuit So Hard explains the struggles women encounter when swimsuit shopping.

Based in Santa Monica, CA,  Comedians Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley are the women behind the popular Facebook page, IMomSoHard., with over 1.2 million facebook followers and likes. Their videos are full of wisdom about the highs and lows of motherhood as well as being a woman in general. The women humorously try on several different types of bathing suits explaining to woes to swimsuit shopping and how men have it easier than women.

The two moms first start the video by comparing the swimsuit attire of both men and women. They show how men can get away with wearing swim trucks and a long t-shirt and how they can sit, squat and bend without any hesitation. They also laugh at themselves wearing slightly exposing and unflattering swimsuits while critiquing the designs for an amusing tone.

I always meet women wanting suits that tighten, suck and lift all exposing body fat. At my job, I give women every option for their body type as well as what they are looking for. The suits really look great on them to me, but some refuse to buy it because they envision a different body type on them. Constantly helping and convincing women to buy an expensive bathing suit that flatters their shape and they not buy it is a trend I see way too often.

Although Hensley and Smedley use a humorous tone, they explain how their insecurities about their body image can ruin a perfectly good day at the beach. If my 60+ year old clients will rock any expensive Brazilian Vix bathing suit, we should all be inspired. It comes from within
