Blogging has definitely become the latest trend in digital communication. It's a great way to express opinions and write about topics you're passionate about. There are are many different word processors where you can create your blog for free to start out on. Anyone can get into it whether you're into food, sports, or fashion like myself.
I've included 10 of the most asked questions I receive as a fashion & beauty blogger for the past 5 years for anyone who's trying to get into blogging and doesn't know where to start.
I've included 10 of the most asked questions I receive as a fashion & beauty blogger for the past 5 years for anyone who's trying to get into blogging and doesn't know where to start.
- How did you start blogging?
AB: Blogging was always something I wanted to try to get into. I used to go on fashion blogs all the time and get inspiration from them and thought it looked interesting. I used to go on Samantha Maria's blog ALL the time and just see what she posts, how her writing style was and just did it on my own. She is also a YouTuber and eventually started her blog as an extension from her youtube videos.
2. Why do you believe blogging is important?
AB: The main reason why I love blogging is to see how I progress overtime. It's cool to see how you were a couple days, months or even years ago. I know I'm a totally different person from my first blog post. My writing style is different, the way I edit my photos are different. It's nice to see my progression, like an online photo diary.
Aside from posting my outfits, I've also posted about issues I face everyday like my 3hr commute to school and well as my thoughts and what other have said to me like my older post on my relaxed hair vs. natural hair.
3. How do you balance maintaining The Feast Of Fashion, going to school full time and working part time?
AB: I know we hear this plenty of times, but it's all about time management. I usually only post on The Feast of Fashion when I'm in school which are Tuesday's-Thursday's. I try to post at least once or twice a week. I do all of my school work during those three days and go home to work from Friday back to Monday.
Part of my blog is actually going out, trying new things in NYC and spending money on new products. Time managing is everything.

4. What is The Feast Of Fashion?
AB: The Feast of Fashion is an a blog I started back in 2013 during my freshman year of college where I share my hair, beauty, fashion and other lifestyle tips with everyone. I get questions a lot about my outfits, my hair and things I do to maintain it. My blog isn't to show off, just trying to help one person at a time.
5. How do you approach blog writing?
AB: I write in a conversational style. It should feel like I'm right in front of you talking from your computer screen or phone. I make it as casual as it can be. I try not to make the writing complicated or seem difficult. I want everyone to feel welcome. That's another tip I got from Samantha Maria who I mentioned in question #1. She always writes like you're with her on every vacation or shopping trip she goes on and that's what I try to do. Anyone can blog, there are many articles that can help with blog writing
6. How do you showcase The Feast Of Fashion on social media?
AB:Every time I post, I always put it on my Instagram, Snapchat & Twitter handles. Make sure it's a public page so everyone can view your content. I've made my instagram a business instagram in the settings because I'm a brand, and you can be a brand too!
Below, I've attached some pictures from my instagram story where I've mentioned my blog, especially if I've posted something new. I also post on my Snapchat and Twitter when I write a new post.
7. How do you go about taking photos for your blog?
AB: Selfies are okay, I would try and get someone to take a photo of you with a nice and clean background. Making sure theres no dead or empty space and making sure you're the subject of your photo. I like to use the app VSCO, it creates nice and clean cut photos that make any of your social media's aesthetically pleasing.
Speaking of aesthetics, it's important to make sure your social media's are appealing to the eyes.
This is the body of my Instagram. The colors pop, my pictures show movement and not just me being stiff, I have quotes down the middle and I think it's important to show your personality through your social media. They're also clear and show me as the subject.
This is my instagram bio. It shows who I am, what I do & my contact information. I like that instagram added the highlights from your instagram story just incase some people who don't view your story in the 24hrs given, can view it.
Make sure you add contact information. Brands, bloggers or other users who are scrolling through your instagram can get in contact with you about collaborations and other special projects.
8. How do you come up with topics to write about?
AB: Coming up with topics to write about isn't difficult because my blog is focused on a specific theme which is fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Fashion, I posts my outfit of the days (OOTD's). Beauty, I post new beauty products I've received and my monthly favorites where I showcase what I've been loving all month long.
For example, if you're interested in sports and want to write a sports blog, write reviews about upcoming games, go to to games or write features about different players.
9. How do you gain exposure or get sponsorships from other brands?
AB: Adding hashtags have helped my instagram a lot with gaining followers and exposures. I would add at least 20 hashtags per post about who you are and what you do. I've added an example of the hashtags I post below. Forbes posted a great article on the importance of hashtags. If you're not using them now and you're trying to grow your following, start to add them.
Because of my hashtags, I've had sponsors from SprezzaBox for this past Valentine's Day and a collaboration with TommyJohn a couple years ago where they have noticed my content, liked it and wanted me to show their products in exchange for exposure on their social media handles.
I hope this helps someone in their quest to build their brand or being blogging. It takes a lot of hand work and mostly CONSISTENCY to be recognized as a blogger. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
xo, Ash
